Outreach & community engagement

Public engagement is an important part of my PhD. Alongside my lab, I contributed to an ITV News piece on how hotter temperatures affect bees, and I take part in Bristol’s annual Pollinator Festival, sharing the science of bees and other pollinators with families through interactive demonstrations and accessible conversations. I also help run Insect Day in the Life Sciences Building, where school groups come to learn more about the natural world. Future research will also be communicated directly to practitioners via the Bumblebee Conservation Trust (my PhD CASE partner) at monthly meetings, with wider outreach through their blog, e-newsletter and membership magazine, reaching approximately 10,000 members.

Women in STEM Network

I am a coordinator of the Women in STEM Network within the Faculty of Life Sciences, along with Lauren Vane and Elizabeth Hodge. This involves organising events for socialising, networking and discussing the challenges that underrepresented people face within a STEM environment. This also involves running annual Women in STEM events held for international women's day including talks and seminars. For these roles, Lauren and I both won the Inclusivity Award 2025 from the School of Biological Sciences for running the Women in STEM network within the faculty and for organising annual Women in STEM events for International Women's Day.
